Death and the Girl Next Door - Book Review by Voodoo Bride

Death and the Girl Next Door (Darklight #1)
by Darynda Jones

What is it about:
Ten years ago, Lorelei's parents disappeared without a trace. Raised by her grandparents and leaning on the support of her best friends, Lorelei is finally beginning to accept the fact that her parents are never coming home. For Lorelei, life goes on.

High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be. Until the day the school's designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it, standing outside her house in the dark, night after night. Things get even more complicated when a new guy—terrifying, tough, sexy Jared Kovach—comes to school. Cameron and Jared instantly despise each other and Lorelei seems to be the reason for their animosity. What does Jared know about her parents? Why does Cameron tell Jared he can't have Lorelei? And what will any of them do when Death comes knocking for real?

What did Voodoo Bride think of it:
This is an enjoyable read.

Lorelei and her friends are cool characters, I really liked how they interact with each other, it felt real.

I had a bit of trouble with both Cameron and Jared though. They're more busy with fighting each other than anything else at first, but luckily at some point they start doing more than beating each other up and I started to like them, especially Jared.

The story is suspenseful and confusing at times, but while more information is revealed things fall into place. I really enjoyed Jones' witty and easy writing style, it fit the story and characters nicely.

Overall this is a really nice Paranormal YA read and it made me eager to read the next book and to continue reading Jones' Charley Davidson series. I'll have to dig up Second Grave on the Left and start on it one of these days.

Why should you read it:
It's an enjoyable Paranormal YA read
