Sky Tinted Water - Book Review by Voodoo Bride

Sky Tinted Water (Sky Tinted Water, #1)
by Keta Diablo

What is it about:
Familial bonds, malevolent schemes and passion collide in this sweet historical novel. Set in Minnesota during the Civil War and the Sioux uprising, this is the story of Rory Hudson, the exquisite Irish lass with an unbreakable spirit and the enigmatic Dawson Finch, a man bound by honor, duty and loyalty.

When Dawson enlists in the army to bring peace to nation divided, Rory’s world plummets into a tailspin. War, distance and time separate them, but nothing can dispel the haunting memories of their love. Not even death can destroy their fierce passion or a love so strong it beats the odds of the impossible.

What did Voodoo Bride think of it:
This is indeed as the cover promises: 'A Sweet Historical Romance'.

Sky Tinted Water gives a clear and intriguing view of life in a small settlement during the Civil War. There's happy moments, sad ones, love and loss.

I really liked the calm almost slow pacing of the story. Near the end of the book the pace picks up to lead to a suspenseful and action filled climax.

The romance between Rory and Dawson is of the 'love at first sight' kind and even though I'm usually a bit cynical about those kind of romances when they're not combined with 'lust at first sight' Diablo knows how to write it in a way that makes me go along with it. The scenes between Rory and Dawson are sweet and heartwarming.

All in all this is a very nice read and I'm curious about the next book to see what happens next to Rory, Dawson and their family and friends.

Why should you read it:
It's a sweet and enjoyable Historical Romance.

Land of Falling Stars - Book Review by Voodoo Bride + giveaway

Land of Falling Stars
by Keta Diablo

ebook

What is it about:
After her parents die in a fire, Sophia Whitfield struggles to save her beloved home, Arbor Rose. The Civil War has devastated the South, and another blue coat has come to steal her meager possessions. Before the hated enemy inflicts his destruction, she shoots him. And soon discovers the soldier is Gavin, the champion of her childhood.

Gavin's dark secret lurks in Sophia’s future. When she discovers the truth, she's torn between a burning hunger for the man she truly loves and loyalty to Jesse, their childhood friend. The despicable acts of war have changed everything Sophia and Gavin once cherished. Yet somewhere deep in their hearts, the mystical Land of Falling Stars still exists.

What did Voodoo Bride think of it:
A very emotional historical erotic romance.

I loved the romantic and sexual tension between Sophia and Gavin (who is one hunky blue coat) and the scenes between the two of them are really intense and hot.

Next to a really hot romance there was lots of action as well: death threats, a perilous journey and much more. The historical background of the Civil War was intriguing and added to the overall mood of the story.

I fell in love with Gavin from the start. He's hunky, loyal and courageous. Sophia is a much more difficult person to love. From time to time I felt like kicking some sense in her and Gavin forgave her faults much too easily in my opinion. Still I rooted for both of them to find happiness together and to be able to let go of the past.

All in all a very enjoyable and steamy romance.

Why should you read it:
It's an intense and hot erotic romance

Where the Rain is Made - Review and Giveaway

Where the Rain is Made by Keta Diablo (ebook)

What is it about:
After a decadent-looking savage captures Francesca DuVall and her brother Marsh, she spends every waking moment planning an escape. She didn’t count on the powerful draw of desire interfering with her scheme while in the clutches of the brutal Cheyenne Dog Soldiers.

Ethan Gray is a curator at a national museum . . . most of the time. When he travels through time to help his beloved People he’s Meko, leader of the most revered and feared tribe of the plains. Their worlds are decades apart and yet Meko can’t resist the dark beauty he kidnapped during a raid. Violent battles loom on the horizon, but there’s only one he must win at all costs – the capture of Cesca’s heart forever.

From the windswept plains of Colorado and the harsh life of a Dog Soldier to the placid life of a curator, their love was fueled by passion and kindled by destiny.

What did I think of it:
I absolutely loved this story. It paints a rich and vivid picture of the Dog Soldiers and their way of life, fitting this history into the story in such a way you learn a lot about the Dog Soldiers without being lectured. I really liked how Diablo doesn't try to turn the Cheyenne into 'noble savages' as sometimes happens in romance, but how she writes them with both their good and bad sides, making them more real and recognisable this way.

The romance and action in this story are well balanced and fit together perfectly, weaving a bittersweet lovestory that's not just about Cesca and Meko, but about a whole way of life. The one thing I could say against this story is that I would have loved to read more from Meko/Ethan's point of view as he's a very cool and intriguing character and I'd have loved to read a bit more about what makes him tick. I really hope Diablo decides to continue this series as I for one will surely read any sequel.

Why should you read it:
It's a powerful lovestory set in a really intriguing environment
