Today me and my owner (and almost all of the Netherlands) are celebrating the birthday of Queen Beatrix.
(Her actual birthday is in January I think, but the queen always celebrates her birthday on April 30th.)

(Sully, do Dutch monarchs traditionally celebrate their birthdays on the day they were crowned? If so, what an interesting tradition!)
April 30 was the birthday of Beatrix mother Juliana (our former (and late) queen). When Beatrix was crowned she said that in honor of her mother she would celebrate her birthday on the 30th of april. This also was inspired i think by the fact that on april 30th the weather is much nicer than at th end of january.
