What is it about:
Through good luck and healthy cowardice, Misty has survived the earthquakes that have torn the world apart, but has no skills to speak of. Or so she thinks. She does have blood, and someone must feed the vampire who has offered his protection and strength in exchange for sustenance. Feeding Ivan is a priority, and Misty finally serves a purpose.

But when she awakens tied to his bed, an unwilling gift to Ivan from the townspeople, she discovers he has hungers other than blood. Hungers he expects her to satisfy in the most carnal manner. Under his seductive persuasion, Misty discovers she has the power to sustain Ivan in all ways—while experiencing unspeakable pleasure herself.

What did Voodoo Bride think of it:
This is a quick, delightful and seriously hot erotic read. For such a short read Kennedy does an amazing job in defining her lead character Misty and making her likeable. I love how Kennedy doesn't shy away from mixing pleasure and pain, giving the scenes between Misty and Ivan an extra bite (no pun intended) that gives the story a slight BDSM feel. I hope Kennedy will write more stories in this setting and I wouldn't mind if those stories were a bit longer than this one as well.

Why should you read it:
It's post-apocalyptic, vampire erotica!

What did I think of it:
The first part of this retelling of Jane Eyre is the best part of the book.
There's zombie mayhem, zombie slaughtering and more zombies!

With a start like that I was sure I'd be delighted by this book all through, but then Jane went to work for Rochester and the thrills died down.

Don't get me wrong: the story is very cool. Anyone who has ever read the original will know that. It's just that the added vampires, werewolves and other stuff were too little to be able to compete with the original story. Wether this is because Browning Erwin showed too much respect for the original story or because Brontë’s penmanship just can't be topped I do not know, but I felt like I could just as well have read the original as there wasn't that much difference between the two versions.

So when I finished this book I felt a great deal of disappointment, especially as this book started out so very promising, but failed to deliver in the end. I do not think I'll reread this version, I'll grab the original instead.

Why should you read it:
The zombie bits are really cool!

What did I think of it:

The Blushing Bounder by Meljean Brook:
This story was set in Brook's Iron Seas world, but where the other two stories in this series are dark and gritty, this story is so sweet you can't help but smile while reading it. It's a lovely addition to a terrific series.

Vixen by Jill Myles:
What can I say.
It's well written, but this piggy doesn't like menages, so this is not a story for me.

Kitten-tiger & the Monk by Carolyn Crane:
I've been dying to learn more about the Monk ever since he was mentioned in Mind Games, so Crane catered to my wishes with this story. But it's not just the Monk that made me love this story: Crane's writing, her world building and the story itself of course are all brilliant.

Why should you read it:
If you're a fan of at least one of these authors you need to get this anthology!

Archangel's Consort - Book Review

Archangel's Consort (Guild Hunter #3) by Nalini Singh

What is it about:
An ancient and malevolent female immortal is rising in Manhattan to reclaim her son, the archangel Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena Deveraux, a vampire-hunter-and Raphael's lover.

What did I think of it:
In this story what happened took place more on a psychological level than that there was lots of action (ok, I'll be honest: there was frequent hot loving). Although I loved the story there were times I wanted to kick the characters to get them to do something besides worrying about what might happen. That annoyance aside this is just as wonderful a read as the previous two books. I'm in love with Singh's writingstyle and with her characters. I really hope she'll continue this series past book 4 (which I'm so going to get my trotters on soon) and that she'll give my favourite minor characters books of their own.

Why should you read it:
Angels AND vampires all in one series: what's not to love?! ;-)
