White Trash Zombie Unchained - Book Review

White Trash Zombie Unchained (White Trash Zombie #6)
by Diana Rowland

What is it about:
Angel Crawford has finally pulled herself together (literally!) after her disastrous dismemberment on Mardi Gras. She’s putting the pieces of her life back in order and is ready to tackle whatever the future holds.

Too bad the future is a nasty bitch. There’s a new kind of zombie in town: mindless shamblers, infectious and ravenous.

With the threat of a full-blown shambler pandemic looming, and a loved one stricken, Angel and the “real” zombies scramble to find a cure. Yet when Angel uncovers the true reason the plague is spreading so quickly, she adds “no-holds-barred revenge” to her to-do list.

Angel is busting her ass dealing with shambling hordes, zombie gators, government jerks, and way too many mosquitos, but this white trash chick ain’t giving up.

Good thing, since the fate of the world is resting on her undead shoulders.

What did I think of it:
I love this series.

In this book Angel has just recovered from literally falling apart, only to discover there are shamblers about and that there's a leak within the zombie organisation she's a part of.

With stuff like that going on, there's not a dull moment in this book. I was hooked from the start and had a hard time putting the book down. Angel is resourceful, smart and has great instincts, which lead her in the right direction to try and save the day, but it also puts her in the line of fire.

There are developments both with old characters and new ones. One seemed to go a bit fast, but for the sake of the story I was willing to go with it. I'm also starting to like angel's father more and more I must say.

All in all a great read. I hope there will be more books in this series, because this series keeps getting better and better.

Why should you read it:
It's a cool zombie read with gators!

White Trash Zombie Gone Wild - Book Review

White Trash Zombie Gone Wild (White Trash Zombie #5)
by Diana Rowland

What is it about:
Angel Crawford has buried her loser past and is cruising along in undead high gear--that is, until a murder-by-decapitation sends her on a hazardous detour. As Angel hunts for the killer, she uncovers a scheme that would expose zombies to the public and destroy the life she's built, and she's determined not to rest until she finds out who's behind it.

Soon she's neck-deep in lies, redneck intrigue, zombie hunters, and rot-sniffing cadaver dogs. It's up to her to unravel the truth and snuff out the conspiracy before the existence of zombies makes headline news and she's outed as a monster.

But Angel hasn't quite escaped the pill-popping ghosts of her past--not with an illicit zombie pharmaceutical at her fingertips. Good thing she's absolutely sure she can handle the drug's unpredictable side effects and still take down the bad guys...or maybe she's only one bad choice away from being dead meat--for real this time.

Angel knows a thing or two about kicking ass, but now the ass she needs to kick might be her own.

What did I think of it:
It's surprising how much I love this series after I wasn't sure if I should continue to read it when I finished the first book.

Am I glad that the gorgeous covers by Daniel Dos Santos kept luring me in! This book is yet another cool read.

Angel does manage to find trouble, but luckily she's getting better at getting herself out again. The love interest I didn't much like seems to have been banished to the background and Angel seems to be heading in a direction I hadn't seen coming when it comes to love. But there's not much time for love with all the things going on in her life, so that's only a small part of this book. Mainly this book has Angel uncovering secrets, hunting killers, and trying to stay in one piece (quite literally).

When not trying to stay alive Angel is making friends in unexpected places, and some of the characters who have been in this series from the start got extra layers. There's tons of stuff happening and although some things are resolved there's enough still going on to make me curious to see what's next for Angel.

You bet I'll be reading the next book soon!

Why should you read it:
It's a cool and fun thinking Zombie read.

How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back - Book Review

How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back (White Trash Zombie #4)
by Diana Rowland

What is it about:
It’s zombie versus zombie as the Saberton Corporation declares war against the Zombie Mafia, kidnapping several of their party. It falls to Angel to lead the remnants of her gang halfway across the country to claw their way through corporate intrigue, zombie drugs, and undead trafficking to rescue her friends—and expose the traitor responsible for their abduction...

What did I think of it:
Recently I ran into the cover of book 5 of this series, and it reminded me of the fact that this book was somewhere in my TBR pile. I decided it could be my September TBR Orphan.

And what a cool read!

I can safely say I don't think the next book (once it releases) will be in my TBR pile as long as this book has been.

Angel is really growing throughout this series and moving up on the zombie totem pole so to speak. I liked how she is having doubts about her own usefulness when in a dangerous situation, but still manages to keep a cool head and help save the day.

I also like the direction the romantic storyline is taking. I haven't been a fan of Angel's main love interest from the start, but it looks like there might be some interesting changes coming up. I can only hope.

There's plenty of action, conspiracies, and drama that kept me entertained from start to finish. There were some interesting revelations, and some really cool developments as well.

The ending I'm not so sure about I will confess. It will totally depend on what direction Rowland will take Angel next I guess, so I'll impatiently wait for book 5 to see what will happen.

Why should you read it:
It's a fun, action packed Zombie read.

White Trash Zombie Apocalypse - Book Review

White Trash Zombie Apocalypse (White Trash Zombie #3)
by Diana Rowland

What is it about:
Lights, cameras... zombies!

When a zombie movie starts filming in town, things get crazy, and white trash zombie Angel Crawford suspects it’s not just the plot of the movie that’s rotten. With zombies both real and fake roaming the streets, it’s up to Angel to fit all the pieces — and body parts — together to save herself, her town, and quite possibly the human race.

What did I think of it:
Although I liked the first book, I didn't think I would grow to love this series as much as I do now. These books just keep getting better and better.

Angel might be a thinking zombie, that doesn't mean this book doesn't have some really cool zombie action. Angel gets in the way of people with some sinister plans and soon she's trying hard to stay alive.

I'm still not very happy with Angel's love interest Marcus, but I liked how she stood up for herself in this book, and how she did things her own way instead of letting herself be saved by him. I'm loving how Angel is growing throughout these books.

I was very happy with the return of one character from book 2, and there are lots of reasons to believe he'll start playing a big part in Angel's life. I can't wait to see if Rowland takes the story where I hope she'll take it.

All in all this is a really fun and action-filled book and I will most certainly continue reading this series.

Why should you read it:
Zombies!!!
Seriously: It's the best 'thinking' zombies series I've read so far.

Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues - Book Review

Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues (White Trash Zombie #2)
by Diana Rowland

What is it about:
Angel Crawford is finally starting to get used to life as a brain-eating zombie, but her problems are far from over. Her felony record is coming back to haunt her, more zombie hunters are popping up, and she's beginning to wonder if her hunky cop-boyfriend is involved with the zombie mafia. Yeah, that's right--the zombie mafia.
Throw in a secret lab and a lot of conspiracy, and Angel's going to need all of her brainpower--and maybe a brain smoothie as well--in order to get through it without falling apart.

What did I think of it:
I thought the first book in this series was a pleasant read, but I probably wouldn't have picked up the second book if it wasn't for Daniel dos Santos' amazing cover.

And I'm very happy I did because this book was so much better than the first book.

The story is much more in balance than the first: no slow parts that made me lose interest in this book! There's lots of intrigue, action and even zombie mayhem! The plot itself was a bit predictable at times, but cool enough that I didn't think this was a bad thing.

The romantic storyline was also fleshed out much more than in the previous book and felt much more realistic. I could really understand Angel's feelings for Marcus.

All in all I'm glad I gave this book a try (even if it was mostly because I wanted the book for its cover) and I will give the next book a try for sure, no matter what cover it will have.

Why should you read it:
It's got a zombie who works at a morgue and zombie mayhem!

My Life as a White Trash Zombie - Book Review

My Life as A White Trash Zombie (White Trash Zombie #1) by Diana Rowland

What is it about:
Angel Crawford is a loser

Living with her alcoholic deadbeat dad in the swamps of southern Louisiana, she's a high school dropout with a pill habit and a criminal record who's been fired from more crap jobs than she can count. Now on probation for a felony, it seems that Angel will never pull herself out of the downward spiral her life has taken.

That is, until the day she wakes up in the ER after overdosing on painkillers. Angel remembers being in an horrible car crash, but she doesn't have a mark on her. To add to the weirdness, she receives an anonymous letter telling her there's a job waiting for her at the parish morgue--and that it's an offer she doesn't dare refuse.

Before she knows it she's dealing with a huge crush on a certain hunky deputy and a brand new addiction: an overpowering craving for brains. Plus, her morgue is filling up with the victims of a serial killer who decapitates his prey--just when she's hungriest!

Angel's going to have to grow up fast if she wants to keep this job and stay in one piece. Because if she doesn't, she's dead meat.

What did I think of it:
I confess.... I bought this book because of the cover!

That being said: I really liked this story. Angel is a cool character, the concept is cool as well, the story is intriguing and funny at times, and Rowland's writing is decent. I did think the romantic storyline could have been fleshed out more than it is. Now it felt a bit too forced and unnatural.
The overall story was a bit slow too and this made me lose my interest at times, but the action that did happen was cool enough to get me through these slow parts to get to the ending of this book. I'm not sure if I will pick up other books in this series, but for a zombie book with hardly any zombie mayhem this is a pleasant read.

Why should you read it:
It's got a zombie that works at a morgue!

Waiting on Wednesday

My regular followers will probably be able to guess most of the books I'm waiting for, but here's a book I'm dying to read that's by a new-to-me author:

My Life as A White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland

What is it about:
Teenage delinquent Angel Crawford lives with her redneck father in the swamps of southern Louisiana. She's a high school dropout, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and has a police record a mile long. But when she's made into a zombie after a car crash, her addictions disappear, except for her all-consuming need to stay "alive"...

I want to have this book just for the cover and title alone! Luckily the story sounds like it might be very cool as well, so this one has been pre ordered.
