The Extinction Trials: Rebel - Book Review

Rebel (The Extinction Trials #3)
by S.M. Wilson

What is it about:
Betrayal. Sacrifice. Survival. Welcome to The Extinction Trials

Storm and Lincoln's city is burning. The people are starving. The only place left to run is Piloria, the continent of monsters. It's up to Storm and Lincoln to keep their people alive as they colonize this lethal paradise. But will the biggest threat to their survival be the monsters in the jungle...or the ones inside the encampment with them?

What did I think of it:
If you've read my reviews of the previous books you might know I've been rooting for the dinosaurs.

In this last book the humans are fleeing their dying continent and try to set up a new life on Piloria, the dinosaur continent. And of course there are lots of them who think the dinosaurs should be killed.

I kept rooting for the dinosaurs to have a huge feast in which they get rid of the little pests called humans, even though I knew it was pointless. But really: most of the humans were so annoying! Only Storm seems to realize that the dinosaurs are cool and deserve to be left alone by the humans. Luckily she is doing her best to show other people that they can live in harmony with most dinosaurs.

Once again not enough people end up as dinosaur snacks, but at least there is some feasting and snacking and the book ended in a way that I could live with how things turned out (although there would have been a totally different ending if I had a say in it).

All in all this is a very entertaining ending to this trilogy and it even leaves itself open for a possible continuation. Hopefully with lots of food for the dinosaurs!

Why should you read it:
It's an entertaining YA read about dino snacks

Exile - Book Review

Exile (The Extinction Trials #2)
by S.M. Wilson

What is it about:
Betrayal. Sacrifice. Survival. Welcome to The Extinction Trials.

After surviving on Piloria once, Storm and Lincoln are the obvious candidates to return to the dinosaur continent to test the new virus that should clear the way for human settlement. But they have their own priorities – finding a cure for the plague that’s sweeping Earthasia, and keeping themselves alive.

What did I think of it:
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so when I saw this book in my local bookstore I grabbed it immediately.

Once again we start out on Earthasia and it takes half the book to finally get to the dinosaurs. Even though the story was good, the characters were being selfish jerks, so once they reached Piloria I was rooting for the dinosaurs to get some tasty snacks.

Sadly enough not enough people get eaten by dinosaurs in my opinion, and of the people who didn't make it I would have gladly substituted one for Lincoln. What an impossible jerk.

All this grumbling aside I did enjoy the book. There were some really cool scenes with dinosaurs, intrigue, new interesting characters, returning favorites. I didn't like Storm's character development though. I really liked her in the first book, but Lincoln's selfish behavior seems to be catching.

I will most certainly pick up the next book once it releases, but I'm starting to feel I'm totally rooting for the losing side and that the dinosaurs won't get as many snacks as I want them to get.

Why should you read it:
It has dinosaurs!

The Extinction Trials - Book Review

The Extinction Trials (The Extinction Trials #1)
by S.M. Wilson

What is it about:
Betrayal. Sacrifice. Survival.
Welcome to the Extinction Trials.

In Stormchaser and Lincoln's ruined world, the only way to survive is to risk everything. To face a contest more dangerous than anyone can imagine. And they will do anything to win.

But in a land full of monsters - human and reptilian - they can't afford to trust anyone. Perhaps not even each other...

What did I think of it:
When I saw this book is marketed as 'Hunger Games meets Jurassic Park' I had to give it a try.

The story is set in a world where humans and dinosaurs live at the same time. Earthasia. the continent where the humans live, is getting crowded and food is getting scarce, so they have set their eyes on the continent Piloria. One problem: it's full of dinosaurs.

When a trial is being organised to see who would be fit to go on an expedition to Piloria lots of people enter. Some - like Storm - for the food the entrants get, others - like Lincoln - for the promised rewards those who actually make it through the trials will get.

The first part of the book is about the trials. I liked getting to know Storm and Lincoln, and the trials were fun to read about as well. Still I was waiting for the moment they would get to Piloria, as I wanted some dinosaur action.

And when the story finally gets them to Piloria I was not disappointed. There's lots of action, perils, and of course dinosaurs! I especially rooted for Storm to succeed in her plans and to survive the dangers of Piloria. The scenes with the dinosaurs were thrilling and had me on the edge of my seat.

The book ended in a way that makes it readable as a standalone, but it also left me hungry for more. You bet I will get my trotters on the next book once it releases.

Why should you read it:
Dinosaurs!!!
