A Snake Falls to Earth - Book Review

A Snake Falls to Earth
by Darcie Little Badger

What is it about:
Nina is a Lipan girl in our world. She's always felt there was something more out there. She still believes in the old stories.

Oli is a cottonmouth kid, from the land of spirits and monsters. Like all cottonmouths, he's been cast from home. He's found a new one on the banks of the bottomless lake.

Nina and Oli have no idea the other exists. But a catastrophic event on Earth, and a strange sickness that befalls Oli's best friend, will drive their worlds together in ways they haven't been in centuries.

And there are some who will kill to keep them apart.

Darcie Little Badger introduced herself to the world with Elatsoe. In A Snake Falls to Earth, she draws on traditional Lipan Apache storytelling structure to weave another unforgettable tale of monsters, magic, and family. It is not to be missed.

What did I think of it:
This is such a wonderful read.

The story switches between Nina and Oli. Nina's chapters feel familiar as those are set in our world, where Oli's chapters start out in the land of spirits and monsters and feel magical and otherworldly. I loved Darcie Little Badger's way of telling this story.

I loved both storylines, which eventually fall together, but was captivated by Oli's adventures. I love how even in his human/false form he's still also a cottonmouth in how he thinks.

I also loved Oli's friends, especially the friend he sets out to save. I was eager to see him succeed, but was also fearing he might fail. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it.

All in all a beautiful read, I will definitely read mor by Darcie Little Badger.

Why should you read it:
It's a wonderful and captivating read.
